Help with making knitted baskets

So, I've officially entered the world of knitted baskets. And let me tell you, they're not as easy as they look, I'm trying to make one that holds its shape (because I don't need another floppy basket in my life), but I'm not sure if it's the yarn or my technique that's to blame. Anyone have tips for making a basket that actually holds stuff without collapsing like a sad pancake? also, I'm thinking about using some funky stitch patterns to make it a little more eye catching, any fun ideas on that front?

For a basket that stands up like a champ, try a thicker yarn like cotton rope or even holding a couple strands together, that'll give it some structure. My grandma used to knit super sturdy rugs outta old fabric strips, those things could handle anything. What kind of yarn are you using for your baskets?

Knitted baskets are a lot tougher than they look right? To keep yours from going all floppy, try a bit more sturdy yarn like a t shirt yarn, double up strands, and use smaller needles for a tighter fabric. A firm base or lining should help too. For fun texture that adds some structure, try seed stitch or moss stitch, makes it way more eye catching.

I agree, baskets can be a real challenge! That tip about seed or moss stitch is great, they give such a nice touch. I might try doubling the yarn. Have you thought about using a stiff base or crocheting the base for more support?
